Muni 30 Bus
My wife & I took public transit from the San Francisco Marina neighborhood to our home in San Mateo.
This was by bus (the SFMTA Muni 30 line) and Caltrain.
Here are photos from the journey.
Waitingat the bus stop at Chestnut & Fillmore, we watched an e-bike food delivery gig-worker pass by:
What a risky profession. I’m curious how they manage the limited range of e-bike batteries over the course of long shifts.
Once our bus arrived and we had boarded (frequencies are every 15 minutes on weekends), we passed by an Italian heritage parade in progress:
Up the block we passed Washington Park:
Nice view of Coit Tower in the background–very peaceful area near/in North Beach.
Turning onto Stockton gave us an awesome view down Columbus at the Transamerica Pyramid:
It is great to see the fresh produce markets along Stockton in Chinatown, and the solid amount of traffic on foot (not car):
Along Stockton you get glimpses looking east at the Bay Bridge:
In Chinatown, a crushing amount of folks tried to board the bus but could not fit everyone and some had to deboard for the bus to continue down Stockton:
Most of the new riders on the bus solely rode a short segment through the Stockton Tunnel, which does not have a good pedestrian access:
Past the tunnel on the south side is a large public parking garage–emitting cars at a regular cadence onto the sidewalk making it a very inhospitable block:
Continuing past Union Square is a view of Maiden Lane, though at this hour the sun created too much contrast to photograph well:
We soon got our first glimpse of Market Street:
A block south of Market and we see the AMC Metreon movie theater:
It is not a very pretty stretch between the Metreon and the Caltrain station at 4th & King.
I took a photo after getting off the bus of a killed tree, with a sad sticker placed on its stump:
Trains on the weekend are now every 30 minutes, and we had a little time to spare so we picked up a banana, a bag of almonds and a latte from the station cafe:
Our friends happened to be at the platform so we rode together, seeing the sights southbound to Burlingame:
It was a short train ride (25 minutes), and we were home.
An eventful, nice transit journey. I hope this inspires you to try similar!
You can take in a lot more through your eye holes when you are not operating a deadly 4,000 pound hunk of steel.
