Berlin visit
Photos from a week-long visit to Berlin in 2021.
I worked remotely for the week from my employer’s Berlin office:
A view from our residence–the sky really summarizes the late October/early November weather:
While it was not specifically a work trip, I was helping to build the international payments experience for Netflix customers at the time, so I was intrigued to see the gift cards at corner stores:
We met up my ex-roommate from Boston, who now lives in Leipzig.
He had taken a train to meet and walk with us:
The riverwalk was really nice, with fun people-watching:
Local art, harkening back to local history:
Walking around town was the way to take it all in, even at night:
Really nice spaces & places:
A lot of gritty graffiti:
The Spanish embassy:
Train stations:
Nifty architecture:
The Konzerthaus in particular looked to be a pre-World War 2 building:
The national parliament, the Bundestag:
More national buildings:
The river is the Spree, which connects with the Czech Republic and flows into a larger river the Elbe which reaches towards the North Sea at Hamburg.
The city’s main park, the Tiergarten:
Interesting statues of 19th century militarymen Roon and Bismarck:
More military monuments, this one commemorating a 19th century victory, Siegessäule):
I tried the beer, and it was good:
Overall, a great trip–very interesting to experience and see the wide range of wealth and architecture/infrastructure age.
Coming from the USA, Europe always feels “old” in its urban fabric.
