Fifield-Cahill Ridge Trail
Yesterday I attended a trail run organized by the Bay Area Ridge Trail non-profit, that organizes towards establishing and maintaining a trail that circles the entire San Francisco bay.
This running event happened to be on unincorporated property of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) on the peninsula, nearby where I reside.
From the starting point, the 15 of us in attendance heard a presentation about Ridge Trail staff and were pitched on the merits of what they do (I don’t require much selling on this topic!).
And we were off, to do a 7.5 mile out-and-back run:
Pretty scenic:
With some noteworthy vistas.
Looking west:
Looking east:
We turned around:
Headed back:
The trail has an obstructed look down on Pilarcitos Lake:
Sensitive habitat:
More running:
There are in fact some portable potties every 2 miles along the trail:
Last stretch running back to the start:
Since I had brought my bike by bus to reach the trailhead, I passed through Skylawn Memorial, the cemetery that exists between Highway 92 and the trailhead.
It has its own great vistas (albeit private property, open to visitors).
This looks out at Half Moon Bay on the coast line:
I came across some unused coffins:
This is looking east, across Crystal Springs Reservoir towards San Mateo/Belmont/San Carlos:
This is looking north, across SFPUC land that is generally off-limits to the public:
My grandparents are interred at the cemetery so I visited their gravesites:
And then I bombed my bicycle down Highway 92, and home to watch TV shows with some neighbors:
Stay mellow, my friends, and connect with nature.
